Within a short time the VideoFest has become one of the most important international video festivals. The programme consisted of works covering the field of videoart and documentation; the intention was to point out video-specific realisations of documentaries.

In only its second year, VideoFest has become the largest european video festival. Video is a young artform; from the beginning, it has been a reaction to the “brave new world” of the highly technical mass societies with all their computers, nuclear power stations, destroyed landscapes and lonely individuals. Thus, video is not film; it remains bulky, playful and vulnerable. And it is left outside from „high“ culture.

Since 1973, video contributions have taken an essential part in the International Forum of New Cinema at the International Film Festival. 1988, the MedienOperative showed its own programme under the name VideoFilmFest – usually it has only been the second venue for screening of the selection.

Another transmediale is over and we would like to thank all the reSource 003: P2P Vorspiel participants for their involvement during a great pre-festival weekend. Exhibitions, workshops, performances, talks, concerts and parties distributed among 35 venues all over Berlin made the weekend before transmediale and CTM festival a very special moment.

OCTO-P7C-1 Intertubular Pneumatic Packet Distribution System is transmediale 2013’s Official Miscommunication Platform and is the result of a joint collaboration between the reSource transmedial culture berlin/transmediale, the Berlin-based collective Telekommunisten and the raumlabor berlin group.

ReFunct Media #5 is a multimedia installation that (re)uses numerous "obsolete" electronic devices (digital and analog media players and receivers). The devices are hacked, misused and combined into a large and complex chain of elements. They "interact" in different symbiotic relationships like mutualism, parasitism and commensalism.

 

A close collaboration between transmediale and the CTM Festival developed this year’s program of audiovisual and audio performances in the Haus der Kulturen der Welt.

The project An Ecosystem of Excess by Pinar Yoldas approaches the problem of “man-made extreme environments” like landfills, junkyards etc. caused by an excessive consumerism.

Composting the City | Composting the Net examines the parallel process of fermentation and degeneration of our daily food scrapes and our shared digital commons. While Composting the City checks in on discarded food scrapes and leftovers, Composting the Net sources the immaterial wealth/junk of net data.

Videodrones is a swarm of selected examples and vibrating gems illustrating videoculture’s current horizons and lines-of-sight, putting on some "structural candy eyeglasses." It is loosely connected to Video Vortex # 9 and its Re:assemblies of Video theme, which proposes that it is "time to re-engage with a structural and contextual analysis of online video culture." This online-collection looks at the re-assemblages with the eyes (and videos) of those re-assembling video in different ways, with different visions.
