Like Nam June Paik, Shigeko Kubota is a great personage of video art. Incidentally, the two of them have been a pair for 40 years. In 1996, Paik had a stroke. Ever since, he has suffered from hemiplegia. In her amusing short clip, Kubota shows the stages of Paik's rehabilitation at the hospital. Both ironically and lovingly, she presents scenes that make any false feelings of pity vanish and shows that Paik has not lost his sense of humour. The title “Heeling" sounds, of course, like “healing" and refers to the idea of “following at someone's heels", i.e. in close pursuit. The allusion to Marvin Gaye's song “Sexual Healing" is expressed in how Kubota cleverly plays with merely one silent letter and thus causes ambiguity. She does so with a twinkle in her eye, just as the grand master of Fluxus always had. A very beautiful declaration of love.
