PHUTURAMA – Salon Sub-Conference on Speculative and Fictional Design

Fictional, speculative and futuristic design – often staged by the popular mass media – increasingly expands its picture power over the 'real' industrial design. How do designers judge this influence? Do they feel particularly responsible in terms of how their works affect the real world? On then: how independent are designers really considering that futuristic design must always strike their respective contemporaries as 'futuristic'. Doesn't their work first of all reflect the cultural unconscious of a respective period?
