J. J. Murphy's Print Generation won a major prize at the 5th International Experimental Film Competition in Knokke-Heist, Belgium in 1975. His films have played at major international film festivals, such as The New York Film Festival, Berlin, Edinburgh, Florence, Auckland, and Wellington as well as Documenta 6 in Kassel, Germany. Additional screenings include: the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Austrian Film Museum (Vienna), the Barbican Film Centre (London), the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), and Anthology Film Archives in New York. He is the author of Me and You and Memento and Fargo: How Independent Screenplays Work (Continuum Books, 2007). Murphy runs a popular blog: j.j. murphy on independent cinema (jjmurphyfilm.com/blog) and has published articles in Film Quarterly, Film Culture, Millennium Film Journal, Field of Vision, Film Studies: An International Review, and the Journal of Screenwriting. He is currently Professor of Film in the Department of Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison., USA.
