Book Launch – The Metainterface: The Art of Platforms, Cities, and Clouds
The computer interface is both omnipresent and invisible, at once integrated into everyday objects and characterized by hidden exchanges of information between objects. With the current spread of mobile devices, embedded sensors, cloud services, and data capture, a new interface paradigm arises where data and software disappear from our devices and into the global cloud. In their forthcoming book The Metainterface: The Art of Platforms, Cities, and Clouds (MIT Press, 2018), Christian Ulrik Andersen and Søren Bro Pold examine the relationship between art and the metainterface, tracing how the latter disrupts everyday cultural practices. In the panel, moderated by Jan Distelmeyer, two of the artists featured in the book, Joana Moll and César Escudero Andaluz, will present their work, and Andersen and Pold will discuss possible responses to the metainterface in art and design.
