This is our most frequent newsletter. Twice a month you’ll receive the latest updates on transmediale and its network. • German version below 

We are in the middle of the transmediale 2020 preparations and are excited to announce the theme of the upcoming festival edition. Would you like to be part of the festival team? Also we have published a new essay by Pedro Oliveira in our journal and are looking forward to the 20th anniversary conference by Berliner Gazette.

FESTIVAL

transmediale 2020 E2E

We are excited to announce transmediale 2020 (https://2020.transmediale.de/festival-2020) !

On 28 February we will open the upcoming festival under the title E2E (End to End) which includes a month-long group exhibition and a festival week full of talks, workshops, screenings, and performances. In the light of today’s ubiquitous networks, transmediale will focus on both forgotten and potential futures with and without them. Leaving behind a decade marked by a backlash against the Internet and the network society, transmediale aims at a broad reevaluation of networks and their limits. By drawing on the legacies of critical and autonomous network cultures transmediale 2020 not only wants to make the limits of Internet-based networks visible but also highlight alternatives to bring about sustainable social change. Jobs and Internships

Would you like to be part of the upcoming transmediale edition yourself? For the preparations of transmediale 2020 we are looking for an event coordinator, a communication assistance, and a program assistance. Moreover we are looking for students who have to complete an internship as part of their studies and would like to gain experience in the fields of festival administration, communication or production.

NETWORK

CTM 2020: LIMINAL

Our long-time partner festival CTM has announced their 2020 festival under the title LIMINAL (https://www.ctm-festival.de/festival-2020/theme/) . The 21st edition will critically engage with our present and possible futures through music as a site of negotiating boundary-disturbing experiences and acts of transgression. CTM 2020 takes place from 24 January to 2 February 2020 at various Berlin venues. Berliner Gazette: MORE WORLD

From now on you can register for the workshops of the 20th anniversary conference by Berliner Gazette, MORE WORLD (https://projekte.berlinergazette.de/more-world/) , which will take place from 10 to 12 October 2019 at Center for Arts and Urbanistics (ZK/U). During the three-day program which also encompasses performances and public talks, the central question will be “How can we cooperate across borders to tackle climate change?” Register (http://more-world.berlinergazette.de) here (http://more-world.berlinergazette.de) .

On the Telephone as Affective Infrastructure

What are the words, the scenes, the shapes that may elicit you to pick up the phone and call home? For our journal Pedro Oliveira has written an essay in which he performs a thought experiment proceeding from the question what happens, when on the other side of the line is not a person but a piece of software. What changes when a telephone becomes an affective infrastructure which, based on accent recognition, can grant or deny asylum to someone?

Wir sind mitten in den Vorbereitungen für die transmediale 2020 und freuen uns, das Thema der nächsten Festivalausgabe anzukündigen. Möchtest du Teil des Festivalteams werden?Außerdem haben wir einen neuen Essay von Pedro Oliveira in unserem Journal veröffentlicht und bei der Berliner Gazette kann man sich ab jetzt für die Workshops ihrer 20. Wir freuen uns die transmediale 2020 (https://2020.transmediale.de/de/festival-2020) anzukündigen!

Am 28. Februar eröffnen wir das kommende Festival mit dem Titel E2E (End to End), das eine einmonatige Gruppenausstellung und ein Festival mit Talks, Workshops, Screenings und Performances umfasst. Angesichts von heute allgegenwärtigen Netzwerken beschäftigt sich die transmediale mit vergessenen und möglichen Zukunftsszenarien mit und ohne Netzwerke. Ein Jahrzehnt hinter sich lassend, das vor allem durch einen Backlash gegen das Internet und die Netzwerkgesellschaft gekennzeichnet ist, hat die transmediale eine umfassende Neubewertung von Netzwerken und ihren Grenzen zum Ziel. Über das Erbe kritischer und unabhängiger Internetkulturen will die transmediale 2020 nicht nur die Grenzen internetbasierter Netzwerke sichtbar machen, sondern auch Alternativen für einen nachhaltigen sozialen Wandel aufzeigen. Darüber hinaus freuen wir uns über Bewerbungen von Studierenden, die im Rahmen ihres Studiums ein Praktikum absolvieren müssen und Erfahrungen in der Administration, der Kommunikation oder der Produktion eines Festivals sammeln möchten. CTM 2020: LIMINAL

Unser langjähriges Partnerfestival CTM hat sein kommendes Festival unter dem Titel LIMINAL (https://www.ctm-festival.de/festival-2020/theme/) angekündigt: Die 21. Festivalausgabe möchte mithilfe von Musik kritische Auseinandersetzungen in Bezug auf unsere Gegenwart und mögliche Zukünfte stimulieren. CTM 2020 findet vom 24. Januar bis zum 2. Berliner Gazette: MORE WORLD

Ab jetzt könnt ihr euch für die Workshops der 20. Jubiläumskonferenz MORE WORLD (https://projekte.berlinergazette.de/more-world/) der Berliner Gazette registrieren, die vom 10. bis zum 12. Oktober 2019 im ZK/U Berlin - Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik stattfindet. Während des dreitägigen Programms, das neben den Workshops auch Performances und Talks umfasst, steht als zentrale Frage im Vordergrund, wie wir grenzüberschreitend zusammenarbeiten können, um den Klimawandel zu bekämpfen. Welche Worte, Szenen, Formen regen uns dazu an, nach dem Telefon zu greifen und zu Hause anzurufen? Pedro Oliveira hat für unser Journal einen Essay geschrieben, in dem er ein Gedankenexperiment macht, das von der Frage ausgeht, was passiert, wenn am anderen Ende der Leitung kein Mensch zuhört, sondern eine Software. Was passiert, wenn ein Telefon zur affektiven Infrastruktur wird, die Menschen durch Dialekterkennung Asyl gewährt oder verwehrt?
