Becketts Embers
Becketts Embers
Bolton: "Please! PLEASE!"
Dead silence then, not a sound, only the fire, all coal burning down now, Holloway, on the hearthrug trying to toast his arse, Bolton, where's Bolton, no light, only the fire, Bolton at the window, his back to the hangings, holding them a little apart with his hand, locking out, white world, even. Samuel Beckett's play "Embers" inspired Rick Buckley for his video installation. The many bizarre levels of Beckett's characters are of special interest and value to him, as is the description of the in most roots of the human ego. Only a pointed chin, a large mouth, a nose, and the earlugs of an unknown face are to be seen, which is projected between floor and ceiling, into a corner of a room. Even though two hissing gas flames are pointed toward the ears, there is no apparent facial change showing evidence of pain. In irregular intervals the distant sound of the sea can be heard. It is suddenly broken by an emotionless scream.
