Under the psudonym Byetone, Olaf Bender creates his music digitally, assembling sine tones to generate complex sound fabrics and using digital clicks and effect plug-ins to create rhythms and an artificial world without any physical effort. Bender uses visuals and abstract animations to support his abstract pieces of music — in this way the rhythm of music is transformed into a graphic equivalent, controlled by Bender in realtime, enabling him to interact live on stage with both the visuals and the sound. Alongside Carsten Nicolai, Olaf Bender runs Raster-Noton, one of the world's leading labels for experimental sound, art and design. The label is based in Chemnitz, Germany.
