‘Spy Utopia!’ is the title of an artwork within CTM.04 and describes the primary issue: the motto Fly Utopia! has been chosen at a time when several events with a similar theme have already taken place. The question as to the significance of contemporary utopia seems at any rate still to be unanswered. Or maybe the question is entirely passé. Is Utopia a contemporary issue at all? Or should we simply call the festival: Utopia Is Over!? With respect and scepticism CTM takes a flight to contemporary utopia, whilst ‘Spy Utopia!'-in the sense of ‘exploring’ - describes the methodology of this latest edition of the platform for electronic music within the transmediale. Under this perspective various programme parts will uncover utopian substance: Last year's focus on artistic production in eastern Europe is continued in the programme ‘Further East'. Performing Sound concerns representation of the human body in electronic music. Other novelties are the external events ‘De-Place/Re-Place’ and ‘e-Xplo', which pursue the nomadic principle of CTM through urban excursions. In 2004 CTM again cooperates with international partners, including WORM, the HTMIIes festival and Berlin initiative reboot.fm.
