1993 the first”Doors of Perception ' conference was held at the Dutch Design Institute in Amsterdam. It focused on the impact of technology on culture. Many leading international figures in the field made presentations across a wide range of topics. Mediamatic, co-organisers of the conference, produced a cri- fically acclaimed CD-ROM of the event, its release coinciding with a second conference in 1994. Willem Veithoven, Editor of Mediamatic, Amsterdam, will present this CD explaining how the non-linear random-access character of the medium was employed to give the user a multidimensional access to this multifaceted event.
