Für ein Leben nach dem Tod
Für ein Leben nach dem Tod
Für ein Leben nach dem Töd' (For a Life after Death) shows the last public appearances of Pope John Paul II in Rome in form of a diary. The artists were accredited as journalists and attended the official events of the Holy See from a commentator's perspective, next to CNN, BBC and France2. In the repetitive rhythm of the rituals, the staging practices of masses, audiences and blessings are displayed. The focus is set on what seems negligible, like journalists, bodyguards, policemen, staff of the Curia. It shows structures of representation of power and authority, of commercialisation and marketing. In this process, also a portrait of the contemporary Roman-Catholic church and the last months in the life of Pope John Paul II has emerged.
