Graham Smith

Graham Smith is a Canadian artist/scientist who has been creating robotic, virtual reality, photographic and telepresence projects for over 30 years and in 1986 took part in the exhibition “Strategic Arts Initiative”, which was the world’s first telepresence art demonstration. From 1993 to 1995 he directed the VRAAP initiative at the McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology at the University of Toronto where he explored the role virtual technologies have on society. In 2010 he exhibited "Intersection" at Transmediale in Berlin, which was an interactive video installation that allows viewers the ability to explore the Berlin Wall past and present and is one of the founders of the German art collective Cybercity Ruhr which produced the “3rd i” exhibition for V2 in Rotterdam as part of the Dutch cultural pavilion at Expo 2010 in Shanghai and “Third Eye” for the European Capital of Culture. In 2011 he exhibited the telepresence art piece “Displaced Perspectives 2.0” at the second Strategic Arts Initiative 2.0 exhibition that linked V2 in Rotterdam with Interaccess in Toronto as part of the McLuhan 100 festival.
