Gravicells - Gravity and Resistance
Gravicells - Gravity and Resistance
In the centre of the installation space is a 6m x 6m floor composed of 225 units of cell-like grids with built-in sensors. The moment the visitor stands and moves on it, the variation of the position, weight, and speed is automatically and continuously measured, analysed, and reflected in sound, LED light and geometrical images, thereby generating substantial spatial changes. In this piece, it is possible for us to develop a new awareness through feeling gravity differently than usual and having a new perception of the body. Walking freely in the site, visitors are able to feel gravity that they are seldom aware of, resistance to it, and the effects caused by other visitors. Additionally, the position of the exhibition space is simultaneously measured by GPS, so that the installation site is moving relative to gravity as well.
