Multimedia 5: Wetware
Multimedia 5: Wetware
Hardware (equipment) and Software (programs) enable us to work with computers. Yet another decisive factor is the person = the Wetware (wet because 90 % of the human body consists of water), the interface between person and computer. While Hardware and Software function according to strictly defined rules, this is not true for Wetware. Defining and interpreting rules alone can create huge conflicts that may end up in court proceedings. Multimedia raises new questions concerning the function of the author and copyright law implementations. Everybody can work with every thing offered on CD-ROM or Internet - but are they allowed to? Or are they even asked to? Works of art move along completely different lines - how do we sponsor new projects or organize their distribution? How do art academies best react to the new media? This is only a small selection of questions popping up. The VideoFest offers short lectures, panel and audience discussions. Invited are, among others: John Dick EVE, media program of the EU (IRL), Dieter Daniels Art and Media theorist, Claudius Lazzeroni Pixelpark (D), Eva Pascoe Cyber Café (GB), Willem Veithofen Mediamatic (NL), Axel Wirths 235 Media (D)
