Muscle Beach (1948) is a short documentary film directed by Joseph Strick and Irving Lerner, showing amateur athletes and bodybuilders at Muscle Beach in Venice Beach, California. The soundtrack consists of songs sung by Earl Robinson. This film was restored by the Academy Film Archive in 2008. “[It] influenced the British free cinema movement of the late 1950s and was a forerunner of the American direct cinema genre of the 1960s.” (Ronald Bergan, The Guardian)
