"Stigmata" by Beth B., scan from the VideoFest ‘92 program booklet.

Men, women. No particulars, cultivated and intelligent. We get to know them sentence by sentence, switching on and off, some incidents in his infancy, some experiences that formed her... a montage of gradual concentration. They are talking about traumata, the father’s death, the mother’s attempted murder. It’s a matter-of-fact way of talking without being detached. The individual quality of their experiences is cancelled in a kind of collective stigmatizing: They have all become heavy drug addicts. Heroin, cocaine, xtasy, speed... a social descent. The way in and the way out - a totally unspectacular report of their past and themselves.
