The top of the table resembles an earthy geographic I relief. A bronze crust with a semi-submerged monitor in its center. By looking through a magnifying glass, the viewer begins a bird-like swoop over the cracks and ridges of the terrain. Unnoticeably, recorded by a camera concealed above the table, this aerial survey takes in seven separate surface zones, each one allocated to a different area of human existence. Whenever the viewer pauses to examine a particular point more closely, the monitor displays the sequence of images seen through the magnifying glass, as if different layers are being explored. The longer the lens remains fixed on a specific detail, the more hesitant becomes the initially fast-changing succession of views until, finally, the image freezes.
This work, part of the series "The Personal Observatory", calls for active participation.
The artists have been working together closely since 1975.
