Setup by the ‘Filmladen’as a purely a documentary film festival in the 1980s, the festival proceeded to evolve in line with the changing media landscape. The video section was installed in 1989, followed in subsequent years by a exhibition of media-art installations as well as the ‘interfiction’series of meetings for specialists. Although in recent years the festival has increasingly focused on the crossover between strategies of artistic and documentary representation and highlighted the usage of new media, it also continued to showcase the traditional documentary, meaning an interdisciplinary dialogue bet­ween ‘old’ and ‘new’ media has remained possible.
