For a third time the VideoFest has a focal point "Latin America". The videos from this sub-continent are often refreshingly unlike those from the Northern hemisphere. As stated in last year's catalog: the lack of advanced equipment apparently gives wings to the imagination. The 7 994 program is centered, though not exclusively, on Argentina, from which we received the most interesting works and invited two representatives: Diego M. Lascano, the prizewinning videomaker from the capital Buenos Aires, and Desiree Sisterna, a newcomer from the province-town of San Juan. Both artists will comment on the program, explaining the dissimilar situations for videomakers in the metropolis and other parts of the country.
Another guest, Eduardo Lamas from Montevideo/ Uruguay, will comment on the situation in his country.
The program is made up of a series of one-minute-tapes. This program approach (also for financial reasons) is common in Latin America where there even exists a One-Minute-Festival, put on during the course of the Video Festival in Sao Paulo/
Brasil.
Furthermore, a series of short workshop productions will be presented that originated in i 993 through a co-production with the VideoFest/ Mediopolis and different Goethe Institute offices in Argentina and Uruguay.
