Since George Orwell’s 1984, the relationship between communication technology and surveillance has been discussed intensively. What’s surprising, however, is that already in 1939 the TV was planned as possibly helpful in the investigation of crimes. A petrol station attendant sees a car that’s been damaged in an accident. He takes note of the registration plate. On the same evening in the TV salon there is a live search for the driver who committed a hit and run. An improvised line-up is carried out through the television station. But the owner of the car was not the driver. He is spotted by the petrol station attendant, by chance, in the crowd of a horse race being broadcast. The villain is caught. This short film was produced for the cinema.
