"Zygosis" by Gavin Hodge, scan from the VideoFest ‘92 program booklet.

The life of the gifted photo-collage artist and “Dada-mechanic" John Heartfield in a narrative based on his own means of collage. Gavin Hodge, co-founder of “Gorilla Tapes", transformed this technique into the more contemporary form of scratch video editing and computer animation. While Heartfield had to use scissors and glue to make Hitler swallow and turn coins into sheet metal, Hodge shows the “Führer” with a contemporary skateboard during his lectures or gives his teeth quickly a finishing polish. A well studied and funny form of sophisticated narrative that helps to overcome old- fashioned documentary forms.
