The programme draws a panorama of media key figures of the 20th century, representing its utopias as much as their failures.

The media typically showcase social developments by singling out certain people. Normally these are embodied by celebrities but sometimes also nobodies are dragged into the spotlight and then re-abandoned to the dark. By reducing them to an individual, complex and obscure processes are boiled down to human scale. In each of the films presented here an artist either imitates (Speech Bubble), satirises (After the Empire), confronts (Dear Adviser) or analyses (Bernadette) at least one such person. The programme draws a panorama of media key figures of the 20th century, representing its utopias as much as their failures.
