Treffen Berliner Videomacher
Television productions and independent video-making: How do they go together?
When questioned about their affinity for the medium, with almost no exception video makers speak highest of INDEPENDENCE - the right to choose a theme and form, and, in the editing-studio, to apply the electronic equipment in ways that suit their tastes while working at their own tempo. Over the last years numerous Berlin video-makers were invol ved with television productions. Some managed to effortlessly apply their artistic skills. Others had, with even the relatively conventional barriers, working problems with managers and/ or the hired teams at the station. Where is the independence and creativity when working for a broadcasting network? How far should adapting and compromi sing go when rudimentary bread-winning and attempting to reach more viewers is at stake? We have invited video-makers from Berlin who have worked for television, to this roundtable discussion. Some of them will talk about their experiences while showing excerpts of their work. The discussion should be a lively exchange. The public is welco me to attend. Our two invited moderators are Pim Richter of Mediopolis Berlin and Gerd Conradt, independent video maker. Berliner Zimmer - Eine Videothek. We have invited about 50 video makers from Berlin to present one of their videos in a "Berliner Zimmer" - a tape of their choice, preferably their favorite piece. The visitors of the VideoFest can choose an individual program from the videotheque's menu during the whole festival. On Feb 13 and 20, these videos of the "Berliner Zimmer" are being presented in a fixed order. Program and time will be anno unced. In addition visitors can have an overview over the productions of Mediopolis (formerly Medien- Operative).
There is also the possibility to see works by new talents of DDFB and HdK/ FB 4 (Berlin).
