At first glance absurd, ridiculous, entertaining: “love hotels" that have rooms like a boxring, a Cadillac, a Las Vegas casino; weddings with giant cakes made out of rubber; Tokyo businessman dressed like cowboys singing playback to country-western music... and American fast food, of course. Just like little children the Japanese seem to adapt to all sorts of imported culture and to drive them to their extreme as long as they are distinctly American. We might be tempted to look down on their “Japanese version”, but on second thought cultural imperialism and the perverse side of our own culture comes to our mind.
