Two monitor screens form a digitally illuminated 'Book of Hours, each screen becoming a page of the book that contains two texts: On the right, original alchemical recipes dealing with the search for and promotion of the Philosophers Stone - on the left, a pseudo-academic treatise from a future century describing a history of science and alchemy prior to the Great Semantic Wars. An installation enhanced by a surrounding space of sound and of concentration: the glimmering light emanating from the monitors. This alchemy from a medieval manuscript to a digital simulation is furthered by sophisticated interactive technology which allows the 'reader to turn the 24 pages of the book with a simple wave of the hand. But centuries have passed. The text is not an icon any more. Simon Biggs parody places word and image, text and texture in playful competition. The ornament has been turned loose. Demons, angels, and beasts are beyond any limit ofillustration moving and dancing in mesmeric rhythms.
