A building block in the realm of artificial intelligence is knowledge, represented in the form of (constructed) data structures containing a designated meaning (semantics). The discovery and promotion of meaning and interpretation is carried out on an activated field between a semantical and architectural space - the first being the domain of all possi ble forms of expression, and of an undefinable value. By comparison, the characteristics of the architectural space (established through a specific vocabulary) are designated
by an orderly construction which can be exactly defined, mathematically. Objects can be clearly designated, thereby increasing the definition of the architectural space.
In connection with these lectures, illustrative demonstrations will give a better idea of the possibilities offered by today's research in the area of artifcial intelligence. Representative technical material from chosen areas of research will also be shown/displayed: ways of representing knowledge, the treatment of "natural" language and text, problem solving and mechanical learning (coupled with "symbolic" and "sub-symbolic" learning by means of neuronal networks). Beside the traditional applications for which the architectu ral domain is designated in advance, the newest findings on reserve-possibilities in the already mentioned 'active space' - the realization of autonomous robots and software agents, for example - will always be discussed.
