In the magnificent theatrepiece DUPE, Roy Faudree plays the role of a scriptwriter. Sitting in a comfortable chair, surrounded by audio and video equipment he seems to have everything under control. But appearances are decep tive; his wife left him and when he speaks into his dicta phone he also seems to suffer from a lack of inspiration. During a telephone conversation with a colleague, they ex change gossip from film-circuit: "What's his name ... he's a genius!"
Meanwhile he zaps from videotape to videotape on a moni tor behind him, portraying himself in all sorts of disguises. At one time bearing a beard, another a large moustache, and when he puts make-up on his eyes as a female imper sonator, he looks down compassionately at the man who is discussing his wedding. By splendidly used video images, the monologue takes a fascinating turn. After several attempts by Faudree to record a video, on which he wants to make his wife come back, his double appears on the screen. The confrontation with his alter ego Is so unmasking that all there Is left to do is drink a bottle of whisky in one go, and attempt to create videos which he can control. By the first rate performance, the twisted film yuppie slowly changes into a disillusioned fourty-year-old. The Performance will be repeated at 10.00 pm and on 23.2. at 7.00 pm and 10.00 pm.
