Within an adventurous 'Futures Exchange' commissioned for transmediale.10 and created by Berlin architects Raumlabor, the Salon Projects present an opportunity for festival visitors to orientate themselves within the conceptual framework of FUTURITY NOW! Part research-station, part media-laboratory, part docking-module, the structure will house interdisciplinary, process-based projects exploring the notion of futurity as a cultural construct.
As well as being the base for the Free Culture Incubator curated by Ela Kagel, the HKW foyer will be alive with socially-networked goods in the Feral Trade Café, alternative currencies with Le Laboratoire Déberlinisation and an ongoing performance of VALU€S by I Li-Wei. transmediale.10 Award nominees F.A.T. Lab will exhibit current work and use the Foyer as a launchpad for a new open-source hacking project, Artzilla creator Tobias Leingruber will hold walk-in workshops while the Medienfassaden Festival will offer a unique insight into the phenomenon of urban screens.
Two special artworks will also be presented. Longplayer by Jem Finer is a stunning one thousand year long musical composition that brings new meaning to the longevity and futurity of art, whilst Jens Wunderling's Default To Public project will also raise questions about contemporary public/private realms by projecting Twitter posts into the HKW, creating a physical representation of online interaction.
