TIME CODE MAGAZINE
TIME CODE MAGAZINE
In 1985 Time Code was founded by a group of editors, curators and independent producers from seven countries: Great Britain; USA: Canada: France: Spain: West- Germany; Netherlands. 52 min. long, the first edition of Time Code presents seven productions of internationally renowned videoartists. After this encouraging experience we started the 2nd edition of Time Code: Music- Transfer, where several video- artists visualized typical tunes of their national culture. The main ideas behind this project are to use television as a creative medium and to develop a practice of international co-production and exchange, which respects the cultural identify o f each partner. Time Code now presents it's third edition: Love Rituals. Broadcasting editors and producers from seven European countries comissioned a short piece of a narrative videoartist and in return, receive the entire programme.
Television today is part of a multinational entertainment industry, controlled by a handful of American, European and Japanese companies, with standardized exports to even the remotest localities. The manifold cultures of all these different regions and populations become more and more affected if not destroyed by this one-way flow of images and in formation. Apart from the financial advantages of Time Code one outstanding challenge has been and is to create an international network of broadcasting editors, curators and producers of cultural programmes to communicate, cooperate and compete in a mediaiandscape of growing commercialisation. The next edition of Time Code will be started this year.
