The Belgian TV-station BRTN has produced many advanced productions in the field of arts that exemplify a concern for the electronic medium. Stefaan Decostere, the Belgian TV-artist whose work the VideoFest introduces to the public In Berlin, has been a contributor for a long time. Annie Declerck, head of the Cultural Department, has been working for BRTN since 1958, doing interviews on Expo 58, Brussels international world exhibition, cultural news for the Information Department, theatre, opera and dance magazines such as "Toneelmagazine", "Me dium", "Horen en Zien" from 1962 to 1976. After that she realized interviews for "Persona" with writers such as Hans Magnus Enzensberger, Susan Sontag, Max Frisch, Wolf Biermann a.o. In the eighties she was responsible for "Het Gerucht" (1982 - 86), "Ver want" (1987 - 90) and "Ninety, year one", three monthly arts programs. Since 1992, she is responsible for the project "Ziggurat", a weekly arts program for TV 1. "Ziggurat" is an approximate 50' program broadcast late in the evening with one or two items. In the Cultural Department this project coexists with "Aftiche", a weekly agenda on cultural events, and "Signals", a weekly art documentary. Annie Declerck is particularly interested in politics and responsibility of the public broadcast in the field of culture seen on the background of a changing media landscape. She will present and discuss excerpts that include various program designs and credits from Gorik Lindemanns and Walter Verdin, two Belgian videomakers, and a choice of contributions for "Ziggurat" by Wim Van de Keybus, Jackie Claeys, Jan Blondeel, Peter Rondou and Ana Torfs.
