Portrait of Alex Foti

Alex Foti is author of General Theory of the Precariat: Great Recession, Revolution, Reaction (Institute of Network Cultures, 2017). He has been a political activist since 1999, when he started focusing on the self-organization of precarious workers in Europe and the socio-economic consequences of growing precarity in advanced capitalism. He was among the founders of the EuroMayDay network, which federated anti-globalization movements around the precariat in many EU cities in the mid-2000s. He edited The Precarity Issue (2004) of Greenpepper magazine, which arguably initiated English-language interest in the subject. He wrote the entry "EuroMayDay" for the International Encyclopedia of Revolution and Protest (Blackwell, 2009); his essay The precariat for itself: EuroMayDay and precarious workers' movements, was included in Mapping Precariousness, Labour Insecurity and Uncertain Livelihoods, edited by E. Armano, A. Bove and A. Murgia (Routledge, 2017).
