Françoise Vergès, of Reunion Island, is currently Chair of Global South(s) at Collège d'études mondiales in Paris. In the 1970-80s , before her BA and PhD in the United States, she worked as a feminist journalist and editor and was active in anti-racist politics. Vergès has taught at Sussex University and Goldsmiths College, London, and served as vice-president (2004 – 2009) and then president (2009 – 2012) of the Committee for the Memory of Slavery in France. As an active teacher, scholar, and curator, she has curated exhibitions on slavery and directed two movies on Caribbean authors (Aimé Césaire and Maryse Condé). Her writings explore the varied facets of racial neoliberal capitalism, be it the racial capitalocene, feminism, or decolonial methodologies that are intersectional, anti-racist, anti-capitalist, and anti-imperialist.
