Isaac Mao

Isaac Mao

Isaac Mao (毛向辉) is one of China's earliest and most prolific media activists using blogs as a grassroots ''voice-enabling'' technology and emergent democracy tool. Mao is co-founder of both the Social Brain Foundation and CNBlog.org - the first successful grassroots publishing site in China. Among his primary outlets for expanding media and open forms of discourse in China are the Chinese Bloggers Conference of which he is the co-chair, and as an advisor to Global Voices Online. He divides his time between research, developing his philosophical notion of 'Sharism', leading the Creative Commons China team and advising several Chinese and international web 2.0 software and technology based businesses. Currently he is a Fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University, Boston. His own website <www.isaacmao.com> is often blocked in China.
