Films are inherently imaginary journeys; the viewer is taken to times and places that have little to do with her current situation seated in the cinema. This gap between space and time is the theme of the programme. Travelogue is a travel film that has no accompanying images, and so morphs the information-hungry genre of the early days of cinematography into pure fiction. With surreal composition, an already impressive landscape in centipede sun is fantastically magnified. The animation, The Vanishing Point, cites the relationship between people and the dramatic, charged landscape of Hollywood films – without that which would redeem the dramaturgy. Letzter Tag der Republik shows, in time-lapse, on two screens, the destruction of the last remaining concrete stumps of the Palast der Republik, one of the most important architectural symbols of the GDR. Using a relatively simple installation procedure Storyteller transforms the skyline of Las Vegas into a futuristic, un-locatable vision. In TEN, the artist clones himself digitally, creating a claustrophobic encounter. Walt Disney is brought back to life in Suspended Animation to deal with a present day that he can no longer understand. And finally, 2026 is an imagined science fiction about the future of the pyramids, which, like the first of the films in the programme, is purely based on the verbal narration of another time.
