Mithilfe ihrer sieben Thesen untersuchen Aymeric Mansoux und Roel Roscam Abbing föderierter Netzwerke als eine der wichtigsten jüngsten Entwicklungen in der alternativen Netzwerkkultur. In ihrer, wie sie es nennen, ‘neuesten Episode der unendlichen Saga der Netz- und Computerkultur’ diskutieren die Autoren, wie das Entstehen von föderierten Netzwerkinitiativen die etablierten Arbeitsmethoden von FLOSS (Freie/Libre und Open Source Software) in Frage stellt. Hierbei werden kritische Themen wie selektive Online-Präsenz, prekäre Communities, plattformunabhängige und gemeinsam entwickelte Plattforminfrastrukturen und ökologische Nachhaltigkeit adressiert. Für Mansoux und Roscam Abbing eröffnen sich hier neue Möglichkeiten, entscheidende Verknüpfungen zwischen den unabhängigen Medien und den Strukturen zu erreichen, die Netzwerke anbieten, entwickeln und instand halten.

Through their seven theses, Aymeric Mansoux and Roel Roscam Abbing scrutinize federated networks as one of the most significant recent developments in alternative network cultures. The authors discuss how, in what they call the ‘latest episode of the never-ending saga of net and computational culture’, the emergence of federated network initiatives is challenging the established working methodologies of FLOSS (Free/Libre and Open-Source Software). This concerns critical questions on selective online presence, precarious communities, platform independent and co-developed platform infrastructures, and environmental sustainability. For Mansoux and Roscam Abbing, this opens up new ways to accomplish crucial links between independent media and the structures of owning, building, and maintaining networks.

In dem Gespräch Everything We Build diskutiert Lorena Juan mit Aay Liparoto über die queer-feministische Wiki-Plattform Not Found On, die Liparoto 2019 ins Leben gerufen hat. Die kollaborative Plattform etabliert - aus einer intersektionalen Perspektive heraus - ein Umdenken der Art und Weise, wie kollektive, Open-Source-Projekte und Wissensressourcen durchgeführt und gepflegt werden. Mit ihrem Online-Dienst, der für die breite Öffentlichkeit nicht zugänglich ist, versuchen Liparoto und die Kollaborateure das Online-Äquivalent eines Safe Spaces für Individuen (oder Dividuen) und Communities zu schaffen, die aufgrund ihres prekären sozialen Status nicht unbedingt auf den sogenannten offenen und partizipativen Mainstream-Plattformen exponiert werden wollen. Ruft man sich Flavia Dzodans Aufschrei ‘Mein Feminismus wird intersektional sein oder er wird Schwachsinn sein!’ ins Gedächtnis, ist es möglich dieses Projekt als Abwandlung früherer cyberfeministischer Praktiken zu sehen, das diese an eine post-digitale öffentliche Realität anpasst. Eine Realität die  sowohl durch eine höhere Sichtbarkeit von LGBTQIA+ Personen als auch durch einen beunruhigenden Anstieg von Hassreden und  -verbrechen in Verbindung mit dem Erstarken des rechten politischen Flügels charakterisiert ist.

In the conversation Everything We Build, Lorena Juan talks to Aay Liparoto about the queer-feminist wiki platform Not Found On, which Liparoto initiated in 2019. The collaborative platform constitutes a rethinking, from an intersectional perspective, of the way that collective and open-source projects and knowledge resources are conducted and cared for. Offering a web service that is closed to the general public, Liparoto and their collaborators attempt to create the online equivalent of a ‘safe space’, for individuals (or dividuals) and communities that, due to their precarious social status, do not necessarily want to be exposed on so-called open and participatory mainstream platforms. Recalling Flavia Dzodan’s cry, ‘My feminism will be intersectional or it will be bullshit!’, it is possible to see this project as a modification of earlier cyberfeminist practices, adapting them to a post-digital public reality which is characterized both by higher LGBTQIA+ visibility, and an alarming rise in hate speech and hate crimes in the wake of right-wing politics.
