Big news: We are excited to announce Nora O Murchú as new artistic director of transmediale starting from 2021! Moreover you can now find two new open issues in the transmediale/journal where we are going to publish in-depth content related to the Study Circles over the next months. Also we would be happy if you joined us for the Unite & Shine March on 19 May, and hope to see you at Holly Herndon’s new performance PROTO, presented by our partner festival CTM at Volksbühne.

New Artistic Director of transmediale: Nora O Murchú
We are excited to announce Dr. Nora O Murchú as the new artistic director of transmediale. Commencing the role from the 2021edition, O Murchú will be the festival’s fifth artistic director and the first woman to lead the festival in its 33-year history. O Murchú is going to succeed the current artistic director Kristoffer Gansing who will leave transmediale after nine great years with the festival. You can now find two new open issues in the transmediale/journal where we are going to publish in-depth content related to the Study Circles Affective Infrastructures (https://2019.transmediale.de/content/study-circle-affective-infrastructures) and Uneasy Alliances (https://2019.transmediale.de/content/study-circle-uneasy-alliances) over the next months. You can already dive deeper into different aspects of their work in the form of two conversations, two reference lists and Robin Vanbesien’s essay Solidarity Poiesis. In his essay Solidarity Poiesis Robin Vanbesien, whose film Under These Words (Solidarity Athens 2016) we presented at transmediale 2019, examines the transformative experience and political potential of solidarity work in the context of the grassroots solidarity movement in Athens. Unite & Shine!
Join us for the Unite & Shine March on 19 May! As one of 2000 other art and culture institutions who have signed the Declaration of the Many (https://www.dievielen.de/en/erklaerungen/) we support their efforts toward a Europe of the Many, solidarity instead of privilege and free art. At 12:00 the march starts at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in front of Volksbühne Berlin.
Holly Herndon – PROTO
Our partner festival presents the Berlin debut of Holly Herndon’s new performance which will follow the release of her highly-anticipated third LP, PROTO. Together with her longtime collaborator Mathew Dryhurst Herndon brings together a contemporary ensemble of vocalists, developers, and an inhuman intelligence. The new performance will arrive at Berlin’s Volksbühne on June 14, accompanied by a program curated by Herndon and Dryhurst themselves. Große Neuigkeiten: Wir freuen uns sehr, Nora O Murchú als neue künstlerische Leiterin der transmediale ab 2021 bekanntzugeben! Außerdem haben wir zwei neue offene Ausgaben im transmediale/journals veröffentlicht, in denen wir in den nächsten Monaten vertiefende Inhalte zu unseren Study Circles veröffentlichen werden. Darüber hinaus würden uns freuen, euch bei Unite & Shine und bei Holly Herndons neuer Performance PROTO zu sehen, die unser Partnerfestival CTM in der Volksbühne präsentiert.

Neue künstlerische Leiterin der transmediale: Nora O Murchú
Wir freuen uns sehr bekanntzugeben, dass Dr. Nora O Murchú ab der Festivalausgabe 2021 die künstlerische Leitung der transmediale übernehmen wird. Als fünfte Leitung in der 33-jährigen Geschichte des Festivals wird sie die erste Frau in dieser Position sein. Nora O Murchú tritt die Nachfolge des derzeitigen künstlerischen Leiters Kristoffer Gansing an, der die transmediale nach neun großartigen Jahren verlassen wird. Die letzte Ausgabe unter seiner Leitung wird die transmediale 2020 sein. Robin Vanbesien, dessen Film Under These Words (Solidarity Athens 2016) wir auf der transmediale 2019 gezeigt haben, untersucht in seinem Essay Solidarity Poiesis (https://transmediale.de/de/content/solidarity-poiesis) die transformative Erfahrung und das politische Potenzial von Solidaritätsarbeit im Kontext der Grassroots-Solidaritätsbewegung in Athen.

Die Demo startet um 12:00 am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz vor der Volksbühne.
Holly Herndon – PROTO
Unser Partnerfestival CTM präsentiert die Berlin-Premiere von Holly Herndons neuer Performance, die auf die Veröffentlichung ihrer mit Spannung erwarteten dritten LP PROTO folgen wird. Zusammen mit ihrem langjährigen Partner Mathew Dryhurst bringt Herndon ein zeitgenössisches Ensemble aus Sänger*innen, Entwickler*innen und einer künstlichen Intelligenz zusammen. Die neue Performance findet am 14. Juni in der Volksbühne statt und wird durch ein von Herndon und Dryhurst kuratiertes Programm eingerahmt.
