Hitchhiking Away from Utopia

With exonemo, IDPW and Gabin Ito

The early internet inspired dreams of liberty, a new utopian alternative to mass media's Big Brother. Members of internet artist groups exonemo and IDPW talk with editor and game designer Gabin Ito about the new possibilities created as the Internet becomes controlled, uncomfortable, and unsatisfying, and paradoxically vanishes ubiquitously into all aspects of our lives.

The foyer stage is located in the middle of everything going on at transmediale 2014 afterglow. It forms a part of the media-technical landscape survey of Jamie Allen's and David Gauthier's central installation CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE and extends that further into the programme of the festival. The main programme consists of continuously running artists talks of Art Hack Day participants, complemented by special CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE presentations and a hosted set of lectures and readings which serve as a response to the project by scholars, thinkers and artists. These talks will be infra-structurally detected and determined — sub-sensory variables will be recorded throughout as a kind of meta-documentation; sub-sensory data underlying the lecture and conference form.
