The updated website for transmediale’s 2016 edition, including the full program of events, is now online. Day passes and single tickets can be bought via the website and via our official ticketing partner Eventbrite. Online registration for workshops is also available.

Curatorial Concept

Under the name Conversation Piece, transmediale aims to reboot the format of the post-digital culture event, creating a transitory space for a multi-modal discussion of the anxieties of late capitalism. Rather than a single-themed festival with separate exhibition and program sections, artistic and research practice will unfold live through discussions, workshops, temporary installations, performances, and various hybrid formats.

 

Streams

The Anxious to Act stream deals with the fundamentally paradoxical challenges of action and activism in the muddy now. Anxious to Make asks how we can establish a critical conversation about contemporary maker culture. The Anxious to Share stream aims to render processes visible that are interconnected with the “sharing economy,” and Anxious to Secure will discuss alternative models of security.

 
 

Program

Challenging the standard event formats, the Conversation Piece program features hybrid events that combine performances, installations, workshops, and lectures. The event listings can now be found in full on the updated website, which also allows users to sort and bookmark the program.

 

Keynote Conversations

This year, the invited keynote events will combine two speakers who will engage in conversation after their talks. The keynote conversations will be held by Hito Steyerl and Nicholas Mirzoeff (Anxious to Act), Jutta Weber and Kazys Varnelis (Anxious to Make), Keller Easterling and Eyal Weizman (Anxious to Share), and Isabell Lorey and David Lyon (Anxious to Secure) gehalten.

Vorspiel 2016

Vorspiel—15 Jan-7 Feb 2016

From 15 January to 7 February 2016, transmediale and CTM Festival will again cooperate with a local network of project spaces, galleries, and independent cultural actors to present an extended program of partner events. Coordinated through the all-year initiative transmediale/reSource, a variety of partner venues in Berlin have curated several projects at the intersection of art, technology, and digital culture, as well as in the field of experimental sound and music.

 

Vorspiel Opening
On 15 January 2016 at 18:30, the Vorspiel program will be launched by Berlin Secretary of State for Culture Tim Renner at ACUD MACHT NEU. After the opening, Lieke Ploeger (SPEKTRUM | art science community), Ela Kagel (former Supermarkt), Tatiana Bazzichelli (Disruption Network Lab), Daniela Seitz (3hd), Jan Rohlf (CTM) and Kristoffer Gansing (transmediale) will discuss in the panel The New Hybridity. A Conversation on Digital Culture, Art and Cultural Politics. The participating Vorspiel venues will contribute to the subsequent program featuring installations, performances, artist talks, performance lectures, and DJ sets.

Kuratorisches Konzept

Unter dem Namen Conversation Piece möchte die transmediale das Format des postdigitalen kulturellen Events neu denken. An die Stelle eines monothematischen Festivals mit separaten Ausstellungs- und Programmstrukturen rückt ein Raum für die Auseinandersetzung mit den im Spätkapitalismus vorherrschenden Ängsten. In Diskussionen, Workshops, temporären Installationen, Performances und anderen hybriden Formaten entwickelt sich künstlerische und wissenschaftliche Praxis.

 

Thematische Streams

Der Anxious to Act-Stream thematisiert die paradoxen neuen Herausforderungen für Handeln und Aktivismus in einer verschlungenen Gegenwart. Anxious to Make geht der Frage nach, wie eine kritische Bestandsaufnahme der zeitgenössischen Maker-Kultur vorangebracht werden kann. Der Anxious to Share-Stream zielt darauf ab, mit der “Sharing-Ökonomie” verbundene Prozesse sichtbar zu machen, während Anxious to Secure alternative Sicherheitsmodelle zur Diskussion stellt.

 
 

Programm

Das Conversation Piece-Programm lässt klassische Veranstaltungsformate hinter sich und kombiniert in hybriden Events Performance-, Installations- und Lecture-Elemente. Die Liste aller Veranstaltungen ist auf der aktualisierten Website zu finden; das Programm lässt sich durch Bookmarks individuell sortieren.

 

Keynote Conversations

Die diesjährigen Keynote-Veranstaltungen bringen zwei Sprecher_innen zusammen, die nach ihrem Vortrag in eine Konversation einsteigen werden. Gehalten werden die Keynote Conversations von Hito Steyerl und Nicholas Mirzoeff (Anxious to Act), Jutta Weber und Kazys Varnelis (Anxious to Make), Keller Easterling und Eyal Weizman (Anxious to Share), sowie Isabell Lorey und David Lyon (Anxious to Secure).

Vorspiel 2016

Vorspiel—15. Jan - 7. Feb 2016

Vom 15. Januar bis zum 7. Februar 2016 werden transmediale und CTM Festival wieder mit einem lokalen Netzwerk von Projekträumen, Galerien und unabhängigen Kulturproduzent_innen kooperieren und ein erweitertes Programm von Partnerveranstaltungen präsentieren. Unter der Koordination von transmediale/reSource haben mehr als 30 Partnerorte in Berlin zahlreiche Projekte kuratiert, die sich an der Schnittstelle von Kunst, Technologie und digitaler Kultur sowie experimentellem Sound und Musik bewegen.

 

Vorspiel-Eröffnung
Am 15. Januar 2016 wird das Vorspiel-Programm um 18:30 Uhr durch den Berliner Kulturstaatssekretär Tim Renner im ACUD MACHT NEU eröffnet. Nach der Eröffnungsrede diskutieren Lieke Poeger (SPEKTRUM | art science community), Ela Kagel (former Supermarkt), Tatiana Bazzichelli (Disruption Network Lab), Daniela Seitz (3hd), Jan Rohlf (CTM) und Kristoffer Gansing (transmediale) in dem Panel The New Hybridity. A Conversation on Digital Culture, Art and Cultural Politics. Die am Vorspiel teilnehmenden Organisationen, Galerien, unabhängigen Projekträume und anderen Veranstaltungsorte präsentieren die Beiträge zum nachfolgenden Programm, darunter Installationen, Performances, Artist Talks, performative Vorträge und DJ Sets.
