New information about the transmediale 2018 face value program is now available on our updated website! There you’ll find details about the general thematic background of the upcoming festival edition as well as our exhibition, conference, and film & video programs, along with a list of 2018’s festival participants. Among them are Jonathan Beller, who will address the rise of computational racial capitalism in his keynote, and Rosa Barba, who presents the German premiere of her film Disseminate and Hold. James Ferraro will debut his choral work Plague, featuring scenographic elements and live visuals by Nate Boyce. The exhibition program includes Teritories of Complicity—an experimental space of artistic research—as well as the guest exhibition A Becoming Resemblance by Heather Dewey-Hagborg and Chelsea Manning, along with Nick Thurston’s installation Hate Library.

To some, the cyberfeminism of the 1990s may now seem naive in its ambitious, utopian thinking. And yet, its daring ideas still resonate, more so in light of today’s tense and divided online sphere. Cornelia Sollfrank, co-founder of the renowned Old Boys Network—a cyberfeminist collective that originated during documenta X—looks back at a time in which a free internet devoid of discrimination seemed almost palpable, and pluralistic networks came to replace unified efforts as a preferred mode of organization. Tracing the history of cyberfeminism back to its roots in the mid-80s, Sollfrank contemplates how it can help us rethink current gender relations.

Auf manche mag der Cyberfeminismus der 1990er Jahre mit seinem ambitionierten, utopischen Denken heute naiv wirken. Dennoch hallen seine mutigen Ideen nach, vor allem in Hinblick auf die derzeitige zerrüttete und angespannte Onlinewelt. Cornelia Sollfrank, Mitbegründerin des berüchtigten Old Boys Network – eines cyberfeministischen Kollektivs, das während der documenta X entstand – erinnert sich an eine Zeit, in der ein freies Internet ohne jegliche Diskriminierung fast greifbar schien, und in der pluralistische Netzwerke das geeinte Handeln als bevorzugte Organisationsform ablösten. Sollfrank zeichnet die Geschichte des Cyberfeminismus bis zu seinen Ursprüngen Mitte der 80er Jahre nach und stellt Überlegungen an, wie er uns auch heute helfen kann, bestehende Genderverhältnisse zu überdenken.
