transmediale 2020 adds Volksbühne to main venue HKW

In 2020, transmediale will extend into the heart of the city: closely linked to the central one-month group exhibition The Eternal Network at Haus der Kulturen der Welt, the two-day symposium of the 33rd festival edition will take place at Volksbühne Berlin for the very first time.

The opening evening on 28 January 2020 at HKW will be followed by the second Student Forum, which will give students the opportunity to expand and deepen their festival visit. Additionally, the film and video program will start: it will bring artistic and documentary perspectives into the discourse on the history and the future of digital networks. This includes a cinema day with short film screenings, a lecture screening, talks, and a feature film on 30 January as well as a continuous short film loop, which will be shown throughout the exhibition.

The Eternal Network presents around 20 new artistic positions that question cultural and technological networks and rethink them in relation to contemporary urgencies. Thematic tours complement the exhibition throughout the month.

The symposium will take place on Friday, 31 January and Saturday, 1 February on the main stage of Volksbühne Berlin; further program will be shown at Roter Salon and Grüner Salon. The conference program invites theorists and artists to a series of in-depth transdisciplinary exchanges focusing on the status of the network and end-to-end knowledge sharing within the ongoing transformation of digitalization.

The exhibition and the conference program will be curated by artistic director Kristoffer Gansing with supporting advice from Clemens Apprich, Daphne Dragona, Geert Lovink, and Florian Wüst, all of whom will also be responsible for different program items.

Under the title E2E (End to End), transmediale 2020 aims at a broad reevaluation of networks and their limits. Leaving behind a decade marked by a backlash against the Internet and the network society, the 33rd festival edition deals with forgotten and potential futures with and without networks. More

transmediale 2020 ergänzt Hauptspielstätte HKW um die Volksbühne

Die kommende transmediale erstreckt sich 2020 bis in die Mitte der Stadt: Inhaltlich eng mit der zentralen einmonatigen Gruppenausstellung The Eternal Network im Haus der Kulturen der Welt verbunden, findet das zweitägige Symposium der 33. Festivalausgabe erstmalig in der Volksbühne Berlin statt.

Auf den Eröffnungsabend am 28. Januar 2020 im HKW folgt das zweite Student Forum, das Studierenden die Möglichkeit eröffnet, ihren Festivalbesuch zu vertiefen. Darüber hinaus startet das Film- und Videoprogramm, das künstlerische und dokumentarische Perspektiven in den Diskurs um die Geschichte und die Zukunft digitaler Netzwerke einbringt. Dazu gehört ein Kinotag mit Kurzfilm-Screenings, einem Lecture-Screening, Gesprächen und einem Langfilm am 30. Januar sowie ein durchgehender Kurzfilm-Loop, der während der gesamten Laufzeit der Ausstellung gezeigt wird.

The Eternal Network präsentiert rund 20 neue künstlerische Positionen, die kulturelle und technologische Netzwerke hinterfragen und in Beziehung auf aktuelle Dringlichkeiten überdenken. Über den Monat ergänzen thematische Führungen die Ausstellung.

Das Symposium findet am Freitag, den 31. Januar und am Samstag, den 1. Februar im Großen Haus der Volksbühne Berlin statt; weitere Programmpunkte werden im Roten und im Grünen Salon gezeigt. Das Konferenzprogramm lädt Theoretiker*innen und Künstler*innen zu einer Reihe von transdisziplinären Gesprächen ein; der Fokus liegt auf dem aktuellen Status des Netzwerks und des End-to-End-Wissensaustauschs im Zuge der andauernden Transformation der Digitalisierung.

Die Ausstellung und das Konferenzprogramm werden vom künstlerischen Leiter Kristoffer Gansing mit Beratung durch Clemens Apprich, Daphne Dragona, Geert Lovink und Florian Wüst kuratiert, die darüber hinaus verschiedene Programmpunkte verantworten.

Die transmediale 2020 hat unter dem Titel E2E (End to End) eine umfassende Neubewertung von Netzwerken und deren Grenzen zum Ziel. Ein Jahrzehnt hinter sich lassend, das vor allem durch einen Backlash gegen das Internet und die Netzwerkgesellschaft gekennzeichnet ist, beschäftigt sich die 33.
