transmediale in collaboration with the Marshall McLuhan Salon of the Embassy of Canada are preparing a major event in the context of the 100th anniversary in 2011 of the birth of Herbert Marshall McLuhan. The cultural network project McLuhan in Europe 2011 will explore, critique and celebrate the impact of this Canadian media and telecommunications visionary on European art and culture through a series of manifestations to occur in various locations, contexts and timeframes across Europe in 2011.

Im Jahr 2011 wäre Herbert Marshall McLuhan 100 Jahre alt geworden. Zu diesem Anlass hat die transmediale zusammen mit dem Marshall McLuhan Salon der Kanadischen Botschaft ein Spezialprogramm mit einer Reihe von Veranstaltungen zur Wirkung dieses im Hinblick auf Medien- und Telekommunikation so weitsichtigen Kanadiers auf die europäische Kunst und Kultur ausgearbeitet.

The McLuhan Salon features a unique collection of audio-visual material on the Canadian media theorist Marshall McLuhan, and has been a transmediale partner presenting distinguished projects since 2007. This year it presents OPEN Signs, an exhibition curated by Heather Kelley, and the Marshall McLuhan Lecture 2011 with a talk by Mark Surman.
