Eight years ago, in 2011, a multiplicity of self-managed solidarity organizations, ranging from food provision and health care to education initiatives, emerged from the occupation of Syntagma Square in the heart of Athens, among other places across Greece. Today, after the vanishing of an acutely felt crisis and an extensive anti-austerity struggle, a process of strategic introspection and consolidation within the solidarity initiatives has begun, according to Christos Giovanopoulos. The researcher and activist was part of the talk that framed the screening of Robin Vanbesien’s film Under These Words (Solidarity Athens 2016) at this year’s transmediale. The film and the associated book, Solidarity Poiesis: I Will Come and Steal You, constitute a profound investigation of the transformative experience and political potential of solidarity work. Dipping into various iterations of the festival’s core question—“What moves you?”—, this essay reflects on the making of the film as much as it engages with corresponding thoughts of contemporary authors like Valeria Graziano, Avery F. Gordon and Alberto Toscano.

We are pleased to announce Luiza Prado de O. Martins as Vilém Flusser Resident 2019 with her project “The Councils of the Pluriversal: Affective Temporalities of Reproduction and Climate Change.”
In ihrem Projekt diskutiert Luiza Prado de O. Martins gemeinsam mit Mitgliedern marginalisierter Gruppen aus nördlichen Nationen und dem globalen Süden Verschränkungen zwischen Klimawandel, Reproduktion, Abstammungs- und Zukunftsgeschichten, Land und Zugehörigkeit sowie radikalen Formen der Fürsorge.
In her project, Luiza Prado de O. Martins will discuss the entanglements of climate change, reproduction, ancestral and future histories, land and belonging, and radical forms of care together with members of marginalized groups in Northern nations and the Global South.
The second issue of the transmediale/journal aims to investigate how new forms of acting in solidarity can be built by connecting artistic, tech, and activist approaches.
In der zweiten Ausgabe des transmediale/journals wird untersucht, wie neue Formen solidarischen Handelns durch die Verbindung von künstlerischen, aktivistischen und Tech-Ansätzen aufgebaut werden können.
Wie übersetzt sich Denken oder gelebte Erfahrung in Handlungen? Die Teilnehmer*innen des Study Circles Uneasy Alliances thematisieren in ihrer Konversation die Notwendigkeit und Herausforderung, neue Bündnisformen zu bilden, um über verschiedene soziale Ebenen hinweg Solidarität zu fördern. Sie erkunden gleichermaßen Bündnisse des Unbehagens, die durch geteilte Erfahrungen des Lebens im Neoliberalismus motiviert sind, und Bündnisse, die durch das Zusammenbringen von Gruppen unterschiedlicher Interessen und Hintergründe wie Technologie, Umwelt und nicht-westliche Perspektiven Unbehagen erzeugen können. Diese Konversation ist das Ergebnis eines gemeinschaftlichen Schreib- und Redigierungsprozesses, der durch ein physisches Treffen im Berliner Projektraum Spektrum im November 2018 inspiriert wurde und sich im Anschluss in einem Online-Textpad fortgesetzt hat. Die Ergebnisse sind suggestive Fragmente, die in weiteren Beiträgen und Live-Aktivitäten der transmediale weiter untersucht werden sollen.
