Die achte Ausgabe des Open-Access-Journals APRJA unter dem Titel Machine Feeling ist gerade erschienen: Sie ist das Ergebnis unserer langjährigen Zusammenarbeit mit der Universität Aarhus, mit der wir jährlich einen Research/PhD-Workshop zum jeweiligen Festivalthema organisieren. Der Call for den kommenden Workshop unter dem Titel Research Networks läuft noch bis zum 30. September. 

The 8th issue of the open-access journal APRJA under the title Machine Feeling is out now! It is a result of our ongoing collaboration with Aarhus University as part of which we annually organize a research/PhD workshop related to our festival themes. The call for the upcoming workshop Research Networks is open until 30 September. 

Depths and Densities berichtet von einem Workshop während der transmediale 2019, den Jara Rocha, Femke Snelting und Helen Pritchard im Rahmen ihres Langzeitprojektes Possible Bodies geleitet haben. Possible Bodies, ein widerständiges praxisbezogenes Forschungsprojekt, arbeitet mit „dem Körper“ als komplexer konkreter und gleichzeitig fiktionaler Entität. Darüber hinaus erforscht das Projekt ihn im Zusammenhang mit technologischen Infrastrukturen und Techniken wie Tracking, Modelling und Scanning. In ihrem Report berichtet Jara Rocha über die Ergebnisse dieses trans*feministischen Experiments, in dem gemeinsam Open Source-Anwendungen zum Geo-Modelling untersucht wurden. Besonderer Fokus lag auf den verschiedenen Regimen, unter denen das Geo-Modelling operiert: wie Wahrheit, Repräsentation, Sprache oder politische Ideologie. Als Verweis auf das Ziel des Workshops – die extraktivistische Tendenz von Werkzeugen zur Erdvermessung und -berechnung zu stören und umzulenken – wurde der Bericht in Form eines Fehlerberichts verfasst.

This text, Depths and Densities, constitutes the report of a workshop of the same name that Femke Snelting, Helen Pritchard and Jara Rocha conducted during transmediale 2019 as part of their long-term project Possible Bodies. Possible Bodies, a disobedient action-research project, works with “the body” as a complex, concrete, and at the same time fictional entity. Moreover, its participants analyze it in the context of technological infrastructures and techniques such as tracking, modelling, and scanning. In text report, Jara Rocha compiles voices and quotes from the experiences of the workshop: a trans*feminist experiment in which open-source applications for geo-modeling were collectively examined, especially in relation to various regimes in which geo-modeling operates—regime examples are truth, representation, language, or political ideology. Referencing the aim of the workshop, to disrupt and redirect the extractivist tendency of tools for earth surveyance and calculation, the report is written in the form of a “bug report.”

Der PhD-Workshop Machine Feeling reagierte auf das Thema der transmediale 2019 und beschäftigte sich mit der Fähigkeit von Technologien, Gefühle und Erfahrungen im Fluss zu erfassen und zu strukturieren. 

The PhD workshop Machine Feeling took place in response to the theme of transmediale 2019 and focused on the ability of technologies to capture and structure feelings and experiences that are active, in flux, and situated in the present.
